To know where you are going, you have to where you come from. So let me take you back to the beginning millions of years ago, something called the Big Bang (the lord said let there be light) happen, creation/evolution, intelligences grew, exploration where both the Old World and the New World made contact. My parents are immigrants (legal) from the Dominican Republic. I was raised in New York City in the Washington Heights area which was predominantly Dominican. I had a pretty good childhood. As a child I use to write a book series called Bad Habits. My family love they and they were proud of my work. They still speak about them to this day. When I was eighteen, I was riding the public bus and I found a book called Drown by Junot Diaz a Dominican author. This book, I read it in its entirety in two days (something I never did before). My favorite books are:
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
The Island of the Day before by Umberto Eco
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
A Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
These books I read on a regular basis. They have some of aspect that I love in literature historical fiction and whimsical magic. Then I had my rebel years, where I party and bullshit for a good part of my adolescence. During my rebel years I promoted parties with some of my friends. We got lots of local fame and made a very good amount of money. After that I had a little stint in the artist development and management of local hip hop groups both English and Spanish. This is where I lost all of the money that I made in my first small business venture. After my rebel years I went through me second puberty where I work and paid taxes. I started working in retail at minimum wage during this time minimum wage was $7.25 an hour. Then I got a job in corporate America and finally I’m working a blue-collar job with a union taking their share of my winnings. All of this with a high school education. Yes I never attended a college. I have visited plenty of them in my life for personal reason (that’s another story). Most of my knowledge comes from reading and just beginning around successful people. You will be surprised by what you learn by just hanging out with someone educated academically. I’m working on this project to build a better future for my family. Hopefully my kids can continue building this company. This small venture makes me nervous and excited at the same time. This fuels my curiosity to keep working to see the outcome. With a mix and match of all the different topics I’m interested in, we can modernized the Renaissance man idea. My story telling (the classic way not on paper) is my strongest tool. When I write things down I feel like the power of the words are lost (do you ever feel like this) The Mentors HQ philosophy is to provide information, advice, and honest tough love.
